Co-working hub for Mindspace in Shoreditch

John Robertson Architects (JRA) has completed the fit-out design for Mindspace Shoreditch, a creative hub for start-ups, technology companies and innovators. The building, located on Appold Street in the heart of London’s Shoreditch neighbourhood, provides a second location for the major co-working brand. This follows the success of its flagship branch in Aldgate – also designed by JRA and opened in 2017. The Shoreditch office will allow Mindspace to increase its presence in the London market, while adding to the company’s portfolio of spaces in Berlin, Munich, Tel Aviv, Warsaw, Washington D.C. and San Francisco.

Spanning 4,100 sq m across two floors, Mindspace Shoreditch incorporates informal meeting areas, lounges, hot desks, kitchens, private offices and phone booths. JRA collaborated closely with Mindspace to create a design which was true to its signature boutique hospitality style, while also providing a space that reflects the cuttingedge style and vibrancy of the East London area.

The office space features playful wall murals and a range of carefully-curated vintage furniture and artwork, combining to provide an engaging and stimulating work environment. JRA was responsible for both the concept and developed design, as well as the final planning documents and joinery package. The practice was able to accomplish the project on a tight timescale due to its in-depth knowledge of the Mindspace brand. The building offers a stylish, community-minded environment for businesses of different sizes and sectors.

Angela St Clair-Ford, Project Director at John Robertson Architects, said: “We worked closely with Mindspace to create a lively, engaging design that illustrates the heart of their brand. As part of our approach, we underook extensive research on hospitality design, visiting Mindspace’s branches in Munich, and drawing on antique markets and local shops to curate original artworks with local artists. These artworks now decorate the vast lounge spaces where users collaborate and interact.”

Lily Stranger, Design Lead, Mindspace Shoreditch: “Our collaboration with JRA allowed us to create a bespoke office environment that provides an excellent addition to the Mindspace community. With a blend of internationalinspired interiors and East London style, the space meets the needs of both innovators and creatives.”
