The project refers to the renovation of a 14,4m2 rooftop flatroom in a 1973 Athenian poly-katoikia at the Strefi’s hill. It’s a private project assignment, completed in 2023.

"A house, no matter how small, is still a huge issue." Aris Provelegios, 1986
With this guiding phrase, a small former laundry rooftop room is converted into a minimal home for a contemporary homo-sex couple, in the framework to be used as a secondary residence for the city. It responds to a need for proximity to the city center and an opportunity to alter space perspectives in habiting. A vacation habitat in the center of the city

The design is driven by the organization of the plan in a compact, intelligent and transformable way, to satisfy the basic needs of the residence: bedroom - living room - kitchen - dining room - bathroom. Two main zones are organized as habitation zone and wetland zone. The variability of spaces through furniture design is a basic principle.

The main space metamorphoses from a living room space to a bedroom with the furniture design that converts from sofa to bed. Storage spaces are integrated. The sofa folds when the bed is unfolded and special care has been taken to store the coffee table. The kitchen, 2,43m2 unfolds seemingly to form extra workspaces. The bathroom is fully functional in 1.78m2. The function of dinning is completely transferred to the outside area, as a participatory Sunday table.

The choice of materials and colors reinforces the concept of a minimal luxury. An important element was the preservation of the existing mosaics
The minimum habiting space, as a container, is transformed through the architectural design to a tool, towards a creative reuse of the Athenian built capital in contemporary terms that ensure self-sufficiency in habiting.
