Project Description
Located at the gateway to Taihu New City and overlooking Lihu Lake, MixC Wuxi Mixed-Use brings together retail, offices and cultural facilities within a unified urban destination. Rather than treating the site purely as a commercial development, the design responds to its former role as a public park by returning generous green and civic spaces to the city. The central Lihu Oasis, landscaped public areas and the cultural center’s accessible rooftop garden create places for gathering, recreation and everyday urban life. Wuxi Case Study_Design Journal_…
At the heart of the project is the idea of “Culture–Retail–City”: cultural activity supports commercial vitality, while retail, dining and social spaces extend the experience before and after performances. The Wuxi Eye, positioned above the central plaza, acts as a visual landmark and viewing space, creating a strong dialogue between architecture, public realm and the surrounding landscape. The cultural center further strengthens the project’s relationship with its setting through transparent façades, landscaped steps and a rooftop garden overlooking Lihu Lake. Its architectural language takes inspiration from soaring wings, echoing the nearby Wuxi Grand Theatre and reinforcing the project’s ambition to be both local and landmark.
