In Salzburg’s Flachgau region, the Mobilitätszukunft Thalgau emerges as a forward-looking mobility hub, where conventional petrol infrastructure meets electric charging, new user-oriented spaces, and local services within a single, sustainable framework.
The project is anchored by a striking 70 × 20 metre cantilevered roof, articulated through a strict diamond-shaped modular grid that defines all different functions and areas.
A subtle 15-degree rotation of the grid responds to traffic flows and site access, infusing the structure with a dynamic rhythm that enlivens the landscape. Composed of 14 identical, umbrella-like timber elements resting on slender spun-concrete columns, the roof conveys a remarkable sense of lightness and transparency despite its generous span.
Beneath this overarching canopy, two pavilions—with a shop, café, lounge, and energy consulting office — interact with landscaped green islands to orchestrate functional zones, guiding visitors intuitively through the space.
The project transcends the concept of a mobility hub: its compact spatial organisation, rigorous sustainable grid-based construction, and high technological standards establish it as a contemporary piece of infrastructure, enriching the user experience by seamlessly merging functionality with architectural design.
