Concept Multimodal Railway Station: Bus, railway and bicycle form a multimodal network at the Station Dornbirn. In this development the federal state Vorarlberg takes a leading position. Architecture for a new mobility culture: Less car traffic and more mobility diversity mean more safety. The new railway station, which can be defined as a mobility platform, introduces new standards while armonizing technical, constructional and organizational efforts to optimally connect different modes of transport, like the railway, buses, bicycles and automobiles. Passengers will be offered public, gender-equal spaces with encounter zones, pedestrian underpasses with natural day-light fenestration, clear visibility of guiding systems and comfortable transit zones. The railway station functions as a competency center for mobility.
Program: Renovation and addition to station building, barrier-free accessible station and supporting services, new customer center, bar, and kiosk, construction of a new main platform and platform island. Furnishings: waiting “boxes”, information systems, seating. New design for square and entry area, Bike + Ride garage with bicycle underpass, Park + Ride zone.
Concept Bicycle Garage: The bicycle garage is an innovative, newly developed and user friendly parking system: Safe disposal in locked boxes, 24-hour availability, touch-free accessibility through a chip-card system. The garage can be entered through a single underground passage. The architecture of the garage was conceived with adaptability in mind for different uses, such as public, bicycle rental or private commercial enterprises.
