Nannygai Beach House

Paul Butterworth Architect as Architects

‘Nannygai’ is a special family retreat located at Mulumba [Point Lookout] on Minjerribah [North Stradbroke Island].  The home was named by the owners for a fish species caught only on tropical holiday adventures.  Akin to the spirit of the name, Nannygai was to embody the essence of journeying to a special place. It’s a physical and ideological retreat for gathering family and friends, celebrating food, bathing and creating lasting memories.

Nannygai was therefore conceived as a simple elevated platform to view the spectacular beauty of the island setting, hovering above a habitable terrace on which to experience it. The home is equally comfortable accommodating an intimate couple’s getaway or entertaining a large group at family get-togethers. The project was well-made by local skilled hands to be durable and loved for generations.
