Where Norra Promenaden meets Diagonalen, the cityscape opens up into a wedge-shaped park area. Here, the northern facade of the Ankans block rises as a backdrop behind the park, featuring a recycled metal facade in warm colors. The wide sheet metal window frames pay homage to the industrial heritage of the old harbor.
On the articulated ground floor, residential entrances, commercial spaces, and shared facilities are situated along the entire block, contributing to increased safety at street level and varied activity throughout the day. Scattered within are 'bokaler' (versatile spaces) that can adapt their function over time, from combined residential and studio spaces to retail with overnight accommodations. These creative spaces can extend out toward the industrial track to engage with the park and contribute to the vibrancy of the city.
Using wood construction, a high percentage of reused materials, and a climate footprint of only 144 kg CO2e/m2 BTA, the project is at the forefront of sustainable construction in Sweden. The building was designed in collaboration with Moelven, where a timber post-and-beam system combined with volumetric elements in lightweight construction technology ensures an efficient construction process.
