Nobu Hotel Los Cabo

Nobu Hotel Los Cabos

Set along the dramatic Pacific coastline of Cabo San Lucas, Nobu Hotel Los Cabos blends Japanese refinement with the natural beauty of Baja California. As the first Nobu Hotel in Latin America, the property combines modern luxury with serene, site-responsive landscapes to create a retreat that feels both tranquil and elevated.

Designed to reflect the Nobu brand’s distinct sensibility—marked by modern luxury, Japanese minimalism, innovative design, and culinary excellence—the hotel is tailored to its regional setting. Located at the southernmost tip of the Baja Peninsula, the site presented a unique challenge: introducing peaceful, Japanese-inspired gardens and calming spatial sequences into a windswept coastal landscape in a way that felt authentic and purposeful. The hotel’s placement on the site was intentionally designed to block strong northwest winds while preserving open views for guests to enjoy breathtaking sunsets.

The brand’s Asian heritage informs many of the architectural cues, including a modern interpretation of a Japanese garden that welcomes guests upon entry. From there, the experience unfolds across a series of courtyards, each with its own atmosphere and spatial identity. The interplay of fire and water throughout reinforces the resort’s guiding principles of balance and harmony. These gestures are grounded in the local context through the use of native materials such as Cabo stone, agave, and Cardon cactus.

The sequence of Zen-inspired gardens gradually opens to sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, precisely framed by the hotel’s arrival axis. This layered procession establishes a memorable first impression and sets the tone for the guest experience.

Thoughtfully integrated water features and a variety of pools cater to a range of guest preferences. With 18 pools on site, the resort offers everything from vibrant social settings to quiet, private corners. Daybeds under palms, meandering waterways, and an adults-only infinity pool create a diverse aquatic experience. Each of the 200 guestrooms includes direct outdoor access, with many featuring plunge pools and unobstructed views.

WATG’s approach focused on contextual sensitivity, brand alignment, and technical execution. Key priorities included circulation clarity, operational flow, back-of-house logistics, and intuitive wayfinding, all contributing to environments that balance practicality with sensory richness.

Local artisans played an essential role in shaping the project’s character, bringing craft and texture to interior and exterior elements. Drought-tolerant, native vegetation was chosen to support ecological goals while visually harmonizing with the surrounding landscape.

Architecture becomes a narrative vehicle for the Nobu brand, while the landscape strategy enhances the guest journey and supports long-term value. Gardens, pools, and outdoor spaces function as both amenities and experiential anchors, distinguishing the resort from its peers. The overall composition captures Nobu’s identity as a place of quiet sophistication and contemporary hospitality.
