Situated in a tranquil rural village in China, this oval structure designed by Yang Fei and Field Object Lab spans gracefully over the water, establishing two contrasting spatial experiences within a 1-meter elevation difference. To the higher side, it elevates visitors, offering unobstructed panoramic views of the encompassing lake and the expansive horizon. Conversely, the descending pathway creates an intimate engagement with the water, allowing users to connect with the natural environment.
Constructed with pre-fabricated steel beams as its foundation, the bridge is topped with a wooden deck, an homage to the rich wooden architectural traditions of China, yet executed with modern precision to accommodate the design's elevation shifts. The dark gray anodized aluminum railings, while minimalistic in design, ensure safety while allowing an uninterrupted visual flow across the landscape.
