The B y P Construcciones offices in Santa Marta were conceived as a living reflection of the company’s identity: vibrant, local, and deeply rooted in its commitment to community. For Tarq Studio, the challenge was not only to design a functional workplace but to create a space that resonates emotionally with those who use it, aligning with our core philosophy of crafting atmospheres and transitions rather than mere layouts.
The project’s central inspiration came from ByP’s character: a builder of spaces with purpose and impact in the Caribbean region. We wanted to translate this mission into a fresh, authentic, and dynamic environment, where color, natural light, and local materials enhance both the individual and collective experience. The design avoids corporate rigidity in favor of openness, flexibility, and creative energy, qualities that define the evolving nature of contemporary workspaces.
One of the first challenges was the original closed-plan layout, which limited communication and spatial continuity. Our strategy was to open up the space without sacrificing functionality. We used modular partitions, glass enclosures, and custom woodwork to define zones while maintaining visual transparency and a sense of openness. This created a collaborative environment where team members can interact organically while still accessing spaces for focused work or private meetings.
Materiality played a key role in reinforcing the narrative. A palette of warm woods, matte finishes, and neutral-toned, high-resistance flooring forms the base, while bold colors are introduced in furniture, accents, and wall treatments. These touches energize the space and aid in intuitive wayfinding and zoning. All materials were selected with durability, local relevance, and sensory comfort in mind, important criteria for a busy, high-traffic office.
The spatial configuration was designed around a central collaborative hub that connects all key areas: open workstations, meeting rooms, relaxation zones, and reception. Circulation is fluid and generous, promoting movement and interaction. Transparent partitions and glass walls enhance natural light distribution, contributing to a bright and uplifting atmosphere throughout the day.
Ultimately, the ByP Offices are more than a workplace, they are a physical extension of the company's values and a testament to architecture’s capacity to foster connection, creativity, and well-being. The space affirms that design can improve how we work, and more importantly, how we feel while working.
