Pärnu Art Port is located at the new central district of Pärnu, at the crossroads of main transport and services. The simplistic building volume steps back to make room for a new central plaza and the building volume twists to adapt to main pedestrian paths. Percieved as a building next to a plaza, the minimalistic facades act as a serene backdrop for urban activities.
The multifunctional art center (red) houses a series of art galleries, concert venue and a multi purpose hall, alongside an art school and ateliers for the creative industry.
The additional volume (blue) houses further office space for for the creative industry and retail and services on the ground floor.
The twisted facade is built up from concrete slabs that have been pre-casted and cracked in half to produce a vibrant yet minimalistic silhouette. The facade also works as a passive sun shade to the interior. The steel plated volumes penetrating the facade serve as focal points where one enters the building and provide special viewpoints in and from the buiding.
