PHYLL PHUKET

Phuket is strongly defined by its coastal setting, framed by mountains and lush natural landscapes. The concept of the “Mystic Island” is inspired by the tropical beauty of Phuket, harmoniously combined with the site’s central urban location.

The key design challenge is to translate the essence of Phuket with cultural and natural character into the landscape design. The goal is to preserve a strong sense of place while simultaneously establishing a unique identity for the project that resonates with both its local context and urban environment.

The landscape area consists of a stunning courtyard garden and main pool  as surrounded by small and large islands. The pool was separated into active and passive activity in order to respond to all users with curved design to evoke a sense of comfort and safety for calming experience.

The communal platform is elevated to integrate parking beneath, ensuring functional efficiency while preserving the visual continuity of the landscape. This design approach allows the pool and surrounding green spaces to be perceived as a seamless, unified environment within the project

The manipulation of ground levels is employed as a key design strategy to introduce spatial dynamism and reflect the translation of Phuket’s distinctive topography into the built environment. Contour-inspired forms are expressed through cascading water features, which not only animate the space but also establish a strong visual identity within the landscape.

Complementing this, the architectural language uses a series of curved, terraced forms that step rhythmically across the site, reinforcing the dialogue between landform, water, and built structure. Together, these elements create a cohesive and distinctive sense of place that resonates with the character of Phuket.

By using curved design for calming experience, the design serves as a welcoming gateway for those entering the project. An arched pavilion extends the architectural lines from the inside out, creating a sense of relaxation while introducing dynamic spatial flow.

The surrounding streetscape seamlessly connects to adjacent areas, where walkways and thoughtfully designed landscaping evoke a calm, resort-like atmosphere. Curvilinear lines are employed to create a sense of relaxation and fluidity, guiding movement in harmony with the overall design of the project.

The Main Lap Pool is strategically located at the center of the communal landscape, aligned with the building footprint to create a 40-meter-long pool dedicated to swimming and fitness activities. The design of the pool takes inspiration from the natural curvature of the coastline, expressed through fluid, organic lines that evoke a sense of connection to the sea.

A key challenge, however, lies in the presence of the underground parking structure beneath, which imposes restrictions on underground ceiling height. This condition required careful consideration in positioning the pool integration with the surrounding context.

The indoor facilities are divided into two smaller structures, intentionally reducing the overall massing of the communal architecture. These buildings are designed to blend seamlessly with the landscape, conceived as islands dispersed across the site. Their placement and form integrate with the surrounding spatial composition, creating a harmonious dialogue between built elements and landscape design.

Another key design consideration is privacy. Green buffers are strategically employed as natural screening elements along the perimeter, providing residents with a sense of seclusion while still allowing visual connections to the central communal spaces.

Additionally, the elevation of the common areas above street level enhances this separation, with the layered screening design introducing a sense of natural dynamism that reinforces both privacy and landscape character as well.

From the interior lobby, visitors are greeted with a captivating view that seamlessly extends into the landscaped grounds. The design intentionally emphasizes the fluid, meandering lines that draw the eye inward and invite people to engage with the outdoor spaces.

This spatial sequence is further enriched by the integration of a cascading water feature, which introduces movement, sound, and visual interest, enhancing the overall sense of arrival and place.

Drawing inspiration from organic geometric formations, the kids’ pool design celebrates the project’s coastal identity while introducing a sense of discovery and wonder for children.

This translation of natural coral patterns into the paving design reinforces the narrative of place and strengthens the connection to Phuket’s unique environment.

The planting design for the project is informed by Phuket’s unique topography, microclimate, and coastal context. By adopting a tropical forest concept, the landscape responds both functionally and experientially to the local environment.

Native and climate-adapted species are prioritized to ensure resilience, reduce maintenance requirements, and support local biodiversity.

At night, the lighting design employs indirect illumination to evoke a resort-like ambiance, fostering a serene and relaxing atmosphere throughout the project. Curved landscape designs are strategically highlighted, enhancing their visual prominence and creating a refined nighttime identity for the space.
