PORTE DES POISSONNIERS

Articulation of different scales of the territory

AP 5 Architects as Architects

Articulation of different scales of the territory

The north limit of Paris is formed by a long straight road from the Porte Pouchet on the west and the Porte des Poissonniers on the east. As part of the big projects of Paris, the city organizes an urban reflexion around each Porte with different groups of architects.

An old military area and one of the oldest industrial sites of Paris with RATP installations compose the Porte des Poissonniers, situated far from the main road. The relation with Saint Ouen, the definition of the towers’ facades by the roadside, the development of equipments, services and housing are the main issues of the project.

The idea consists of articulating the metropolitan scale of the boulevard des Maréchaux and the ring road at the local scale of the rue des Poissonniers. The organization, based on the modern plan, is modified in order to give continuous routes, many services and a diversity of living spaces.

The existing tower can’t have more accommodations, but it’s part of a great urban plan drawn by Raymond Lopez which should get a new global programming before being destroyed. Local activity could be installed in this area with a new housing programming. It means that the accommodations of the tower would be moved nearby on the military site, with a different typology, much more opened toward the boulevards but protected from the noise.

The territory is characterized by the transports facilities. We propose to make a new road, which crosses the boulevard des Maréchaux, cuts in two the big RATP area, continues the rue de Clignancourt and gives access to the old military site. This residential area along the railroad will expand with the public transport and the public spaces design.
