A living at the water’s edge like in a luxury hotel Renovation for resort-like life
This is a renovation project of the residential part of a dwelling house combined with a clinic in a quiet residential area of suburban Kyoto. The owner’s brief was to solve problems such as small divided rooms, a cramped feeling from the curtains closed to block the view of neighbors and inconvenient traffic paths for housework. The garden walls are made higher securing the privacy and a shallow reflecting pool is created, so that the public space, such as the living and dining rooms, opens out to the outside, offering an ever-changing scenery with the seasons, weather and lighting. In the evening, the lighted planting is reflected onto the water, drawing eyes into distance and spreads the interior space into the outside.
The living room, dining room, office, gym and café corner are placed around the double-height ceiling. A combination of different surfaces such as black stainless steel, tiles and acacia and lines of steel adds character to each corner, while controlling the assertion of each corner to create calming and relaxing space as a whole.
We were able to implement an attractive connection between the exterior and interior by the rough-textured stones imported from Bali. We believe the design fully utilizes the favorable impression given by the materials. This dwelling is a place of healing which adapts the luxury of away-from-routine for the daily life.
