CONCEPT:“This house is an example of modernism-rethought, facilitating a feeling of coziness.” When we thought of modern,we envisioned flowing concrete walls, filleted junctions and rounded edges, teamed with vertical grooved patterns in wood. the entire house has its own character and momentum with curved openings and sleek details. Thus came into being the ROUND EDGED HOUSE.
ABOUT THE PROJECT:The house,creates maximalism to minimalism,as there are no sharp edges.We were premised on creating the importance of momentum in the space and at the same time being distinctive too.Material palette was kept minimal with concrete finish walls, oak wood and Botticino and Travertine. With the continuation of round forms, added vertical grooves pattern in panelling and walls too.The undulating shoe cabinet in the entrance lobby—which seems to emerge from a cementitious wall and flow into a mirrored expanse—is another impactful rendition of the core concept. The east-facing rooms—the son’s room, the living room and the main suite—are accompanied by aromatic plants, while the kitchen, which lies on the west, features a compact kitchen garden.
The warm natural light and the refreshing verdure reduce the gravitas of the concrete-finish walls, injecting warmth and animation into the living environment.” The intentional use of sunlight as a primary "material" in the design. This abundant natural resource was ingeniously incorporated into the interior spaces, not solely through physical openings but also by strategically integrating greenery throughout the space.A pair of sliding panels in the living area, lattice-like with curved rectilinear cut-outs, is an interesting and fun articulation of the central theme.
“They’re backed by a mirrored expanse, and as they move from one end to another, they create different visuals against the reflective backdrop thus creating volume and visual interest. Oak wood and mirrors—the latter add illusory volume to an already expansive space—form the other players in the material selection.The external pots for the plants, were designed from the waste oak wood waste, it was recycled and designed in the same groove pattern in horizontal lines.Also bamboo chandeliers were locally customized. By prioritizing sustainable practices and materials, the project not only minimizes its environmental impact but also creates a healthier and more resilient living environment for its occupant.
