Introduction
Nestled in the breathtaking coastal suburb of Camps Bay, South Africa, an architectural feat of floating planes that seamlessly blend the charm of modern design with the elegance of nature. This 3-storey guest house, aptly named "R I V A,", taking inspiration from the iconic Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright. It stands as a symbol of contemporary architectural excellence and provides an unparalleled experience for those seeking a retreat amidst nature's beauty.

Design Concept
Drawing inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, the architectural team at GSQUARED sought to create a structure that not only complements the surrounding environment but becomes an integral part of it. The concept was to craft a guest house that "cascades" down the hillside like a waterfall, forming a harmonious union with the natural terrain. The design externally and internally exudes clean, modern lines, emphasizing simplicity and minimalism.

Architecture
The exterior of the guest house is a study in clean, minimalist lines. Horizontal planes and cantilevered sections create the illusion that the building is almost floating over the landscape. The facade is dominated a combination of floor-to-ceiling glass walls, providing uninterrupted panoramic views of the Camps Bay coastline and carefully positioned structural walls. The use of locally-sourced stone and timber adds warmth to the design, creating a harmonious connection with the natural surroundings. A central, multi-level terrace allows guests to enjoy the outdoor beauty from a variety of vantage points, and a stunning glass edged pool seems to meld seamlessly with the Atlantic Ocean in the distance.

Interior
Inside, the guest house is an epitome of luxury and comfort. Each of the three suites is thoughtfully designed to maximize the guest experience. An open floor plan on the first level features a spacious living area, a state-of-the-art kitchen, and a dining space, all seamlessly connected to the terrace. Natural materials and earthy colour palettes are used to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Local artists were commissioned for artwork to the residence.

The ground floor level is dedicated to the guest suites. Each suite boasts a private balcony with unobstructed views, the result of being lifted slightly above the landscaping, creating a sense of a floating escape. The suites feature modern furnishings and amenities, providing guests with every comfort while retaining a connection to the natural surroundings.

Sustainability
In line with modern architectural practices, the guest house incorporates sustainable features. Solar panels adorn the roof, providing renewable energy. Rainwater harvesting, borehole, and filtration systems ensure water conservation. The intelligent design of the building, utilizing passive solar heating and cooling, minimizes energy consumption.

"R I V A” is a testament to the power of modern architecture to enhance and integrate with the natural world. GSQUARED has created a guest house in Camps Bay that not only captivates with its aesthetic beauty but also provides a luxurious and eco-conscious retreat. With a design inspired by Fallingwater, it continues the legacy of architecture that harmonizes with the environment while offering an unforgettable experience for those lucky enough to call it their temporary home in one of the most picturesque locations on Earth.
