C 9

Set into the atlantic seaboard mountainside, this residence is conceived as an architectural exploration of duality — a journey from dark to light, from introversion to extroversion, from grounded solidity to openness and release.

Guided by the principles of yin and yang, the design embraces contrast as a means of creating balance: calm and drama, shelter and exposure, weight and lightness held in deliberate tension.

The architecture does not shy away from its context; instead, it engages it fully. Nature is drawn to the building’s edge, softening thresholds and blurring the boundary between interior and exterior. Landscape, light, materiality, and spatial sequence are woven together to create a home that feels deeply embedded in place — protective and expansive, elemental and refined.

Rooted in a contemporary African design language and resolved with the precision, restraint, and technical rigour associated with European standards, the project is both contextually grounded and meticulously crafted. Designed in collaboration with Studio Cronje and brought to life by RLP Projects, it stands as a reflection of architecture in balance — expressive, tactile, and deeply connected to site.
