Saint Urban brings an artful energy to McCormick Ranch, transforming a 3,000-square-foot space into a modern wine bar rooted in community and relaxed sophistication. Designed by Ideation Design Group (IDG) for restaurateur Chef Christopher Collins’ Common Ground Culinary, the project reimagines the interior with West Coast-inspired warmth through curated, custom-crafted details.
As a remodel, Saint Urban builds on the convivial spirit that defines Common Ground Culinary, while introducing a moodier, more expressive narrative. IDG centered the concept on a wine bar experience that feels both upscale and approachable, with tailored lighting, custom artwork, and a bold central bar to establish a distinct identity within the local dining scene.
From the exterior patio inward, the guest journey reveals Saint Urban’s many layers. The covered patio, surrounded by greenery and designed for Arizona’s winter season, offers oversized tables and seating for 48, inviting guests to linger before stepping inside. Once indoors, the atmosphere shifts to a more dramatic, modern-chic tone, anchored by the space’s defining feature: a black metal bar structure accented with brass. This element sets the visual rhythm for the interior, creating a focal point that combines sculptural presence with functional hospitality.
Materiality and palette play essential roles in shaping the guest experience. Shades of blue and burnt orange are contrasted by black and metallic accents, supporting warmth and sophistication. A locally sourced, LEED-certified textured tile wraps the bar front, a sustainable feature that also adds depth and tactility. Custom banquettes with refined metal details offer a seating experience that feels anything but ordinary, reinforcing the project’s emphasis on craftsmanship, intimate scale and bespoke comfort.
Art and lighting infuse the space with personality. IDG’s selection of oversized hand-painted cloud artwork framed above the banquette seating introduces a soft, ethereal quality to the room. Overhead, grand chandeliers and distinctive church lights punctuate the bar and dining zones, creating layered illumination that enhances the laidback yet polished ambiance.
Ultimately, Saint Urban reflects Common Ground Culinary’s vision of the modern neighborhood gathering place––a celebration of good food, great wine, and meaningful connection. The result is a refreshed destination that distinguishes itself through visual statements and a clear design intent that encourages comfortable, social interactions within a sophisticated setting.
