The renovation project involves a building of unique typology. The "barracón" is a construction composed of two floors and a gabled roof, surrounded by vegetation and large trees. It is characterized by great compartmentalization, double entrances, and a hallway with independent access to each space. The construction system is based on a perimeter and central load-bearing wall, which divides the house into two sections of 4.50 and 4.00 meters. The structural layout is one of the main constraints of the proposal, as well as its limited height, just 2.70 meters.
The clients, a young couple with a baby, have extensive experience living in different European cities and demand spacious and versatile spaces with maximum natural light. The environment was conducive to expanding the windows and gaining views of the garden, providing privacy and refreshing the home through the shade of the trees.
The versatility and spaciousness of the spaces are achieved with large floor-to-ceiling and wide doors that allow adjoining spaces to be interconnected and separated at the same time. The two sliding doors of 1.40 meters wide make the living room and kitchen feel like a single space. The same goes for the adjacent space to the living room, whose versatility in use and direct connection with the living area make it suitable for use as a playroom, study, or even bedroom.
The natural finish wooden doors take a prominent role in the aesthetics of the proposal. The use of a few materials such as wood, white walls and ceilings, and polished natural stone flooring creates a luminous, warm, and timeless home.
