The building is located in the historic center of Formigine, along the ancient street named after Giuseppe Sghedoni. During the Fascist regime, the street underwent restoration and beautification works, which also led to the creation of a small square on the southern side, precisely in front of the building currently subject to the project. The original construction dates back to the first half of the 20th century, but it was severely damaged by bombings during World War II and subsequently rebuilt in the early postwar period, preserving only a few fragments of the previous structure.

The configuration that has come down to us corresponded to a typical 1950s building, with a concrete and brick structure and exposed brick infill on the street-facing façade. The design choices were therefore aimed both at enhancing its aesthetic appearance—reconnecting the building to the surrounding historic context, characterized by older and more traditional architectures—and at improving its energy performance, reducing consumption and enhancing the quality of living spaces.

On the main façade, the windows have been transformed into single-leaf French windows, allowing more natural light to enter the apartments and giving the façade a harmonious and well-balanced appearance. Each window is framed by a subtle trim that emphasizes its presence and enriches the façade.

Traditional shutters, typical of late 20th-century buildings, have been replaced with adjustable louvered models, capable of regulating light and ventilation, ensuring privacy and solar protection, and contributing to energy savings.

Access to the units is provided through a loggia, which ensures privacy and proper protection from the weather during entry. The façade materials include a natural stone finish on the ground floor, reflecting the tradition of historic centers, where more durable and easily washable materials are used at street level, and a smooth, lime-effect exterior insulation system on the upper floors. The use of natural materials in neutral tones gives the façade a sense of lightness and visual uniformity.

Through careful and targeted interventions, the project has restored dignity to the façade, which, having been rebuilt in the 1950s, lacked historical value. At the same time, the historic character associated with its location in the city center has been preserved, while making the more recent nature of the building legible.

The intervention expresses a contemporary identity in dialogue with the surrounding urban fabric.
