This residence is a renovated Kyo-machiya built 95 years ago, near Kinkakuji Temple. Nishijin was once lined with workshops and residences for textile craftsmen, and this Machiya was one of them. In addition, the client works remotely from his home. In a sense, this combination of work and home, which has been increasing in recent years, represents an everyday culture that is deeply rooted in the history of Nishijin and Machiya. Austin Maynard Architects transforms a dilapidated Melbourne Victorian dwelling into a thriving family home
In Fitzroy, Melbourne, Austin Maynard Architects has completed an impressive alteration and restoration of a dilapidated Victorian terrace. “Helvetia” was a ramshackle dwelling that had previously been reconfigured on two occasions: as a boarding house in the late 1960s and as two separate apartments in the mid 1980s. With the property left in a muddled and sad state of disrepair, the challenge faced by Austin Maynard Architects was to breathe new life into Helvetia.

Neiheiser Argyros gives run-down office a new lease of life
In Athens, Greece, a once tired and run-down office building has been given a new lease of life by London- and Athens-based multidisciplinary architecture practice Neiheiser Argyros. Built in 1983, the six-story office building was a confusion of irregular geometric forms. Stripping the building back to its structural bones, Neiheiser Argyros creatively reimagined the ramshackle office as a smart, modern-day workspace.

Developed inside a former textile factory from the first half of the twentieth century, Oficinas Leonali seeks to revive a disused space by giving another essence to the place.

The project takes advantage of and rescues the original structure of the factory, adapting the building to create a new use and atmosphere within the space. Inside the factory, a free floor plan is created, which is used to generate the project with the least number of dividing walls to separate the spaces.
