Sisters Coffee Company’s newest 2,000-square-foot café occupies the ground floor of Jackstraw, a mixed-use apartment community connecting Bend’s Old Mill District and downtown. An evolution of the company's brand, the design draws from the high-desert landscape, the site’s history as an early lumber mill, and the company’s log-cabin beginnings in Sisters, Oregon.
The exposed concrete structure and the expressed life cycle of wood—from natural to milled to crafted states—reflect Central Oregon's industrial past. This connection to place is furthered through a palette inspired by the region's landscape: earthen walls, mid-toned woods inspired by tree bark and aged homesteads, and a suspended installation of locally foraged flora that brings the dusty greens of sage, the golds of grass, and the subtle vibrance of moss on juniper into the space.
Archival images of logs floating down the Deschutes River to be milled and stacked in lumber yards informed the detailing of wood throughout the space. Live-edge trims at merchandise shelves and the expression of milled board forms nod to this heritage. The café counter is an assemblage of varied wood species and tones—on face and edge—creating a textured surface that feels both substantial and refined. These boards reappear in stacked wood screens and locally fabricated benches and tabletops, where apron ends quietly reference traditional craft.
Warmth and careful detailing reinforce the company’s mission to create an authentic coffee experience rooted in craft and kindness. It is a grounded, enduring and honest reflection of Sisters Coffee Company’s origins and its continued commitment to quality, character, and place.
