Skaters want to skate the streets; residents don’t want a skate park in their backyard. This simple insight was the backbone to the design for the monolithic skate park along Belgium’s coastline. The result is a provoking, multi-use playground including all of the necessary elements for a challenging and inspiring skate park. Its form as well as the mix of red and grey concrete make it an integral part of the environment and break with the traditional conventions of skate park design.
