The demand for housing in the Swedish municipality of Årjäng is growing. Therefore, in the fall of 2019, PEAB commenced construction of the new Solängen neighborhood in Töcksfors, commissioned by Årjängs Bostads AB. And in the spring of 2020, the 27 apartments were ready for occupancy. The apartments are divided into three building blocks. All facades were clad with Rockpanel facade boards, which creates a beautiful play of colours in different shades of red, and is also a durable and firesafe facade solution.
Creative freedom for architects
Örjan Nässlander, CEO of Årjängs Bostads AB: “We see that there’s a big need for more housing the area and therefore we must build new residential blocks to be able to meet a brighter future. When we were selecting building materials for the project, we had a long-term ambition. We wanted to go for materials that are durable over a long period of time and that give the architect creative freedom to design and allow for adaptations in the feature. That was one of the reasons the choice fell on Rockpanel facade boards. They can be repainted in the future, which was something the client wanted.”
A lively, colourful facade
In this project, a mix of red shades from the Rockpanel Colours range was used, making the facades very lively. The facade boards are also UV-resistant and the colours will therefore last over time. Rockpanel facade cladding is made from stone wool fibres, originating from a combination of the natural, sustainable volcanic rock basalt and recycled materials. As basalt can withstand very high temperatures by nature, the facade boards are a firesafe solution.
Jimmie Hanninen, Site Manager at PEAB, who is the contractor for the project, says: “We had not worked with Rockpanel before, but we are pleasantly surprised! We will soon be running another project with their facade boards. The boards are adaptable, easy to cut and they are also environmentally friendly which goes hand in hand with the basic idea of the project.”
