A family of four in Seattle gets a bright and refreshing kitchen remodel in a historic Spanish Revival home.

The challenge we faced was creating a modern space with a seamless transition into the dining room with historic detailing.
What was the brief?
The clients' deign goal was to create functional modern kitchen that could be used by the entire family. The kitchen in the existing home had been remodeled in the 80's complete with yellow oak cabinets and well used laminate countertops. The current layout did not suit the family's needs.
How is the project unique?
Queen Anne is a quaint neighbor next door to downtown Seattle. it's one of the closest residential neighbors to the high tech offices and Amazon headquarters. Queen Anne has been able to preserve its' inventory of historic homes amongst the various building booms Seattle has experienced. This project creates an element of surprise when you walk into the home. Visitors will find that the modern kitchen is the center of home's activity within this well-preserved Spanish Revival. home.
What were the solutions?
The layout was designed to be a simple U shape. We removed upper cabinets to give the small kitchen floor plan a larger feel. The existing windows were reconfigured to bring in more natural daylight. We decided to use one wall paint color that continued into the dining room to tie the two spaces together. A neural palette with dark tiles integrated well with the historic elements of the home.
