Inspired by Traditional Urban Solutions: A Sports Hall and Swimming Pool in Prizren
Drawing inspiration from the urban solutions of historic towns like the “Under Castle” in Prizren, Berat, and Gjirokastra, our design shapes a "landscape-building" that harmonizes with its surroundings. Positioned amidst low and mid-rise residential buildings, this sports hall serves as a central recreational hub for the community.
The building houses two main functions: a gymnasium with seating for 2,000 and a swimming pool with seating for 1,200. Additionally, the complex includes various complementary amenities such as restaurants, shops, fitness areas, and supporting spaces like locker rooms, stands, press alcoves, and VIP sections. These auxiliary facilities are strategically placed between the gym and pool, offering dual-sided views of the hall.
Standing five floors tall, with two underground levels, the building optimizes its layout for both athletes and spectators. Athletes have dedicated entrances from the second basement, where parking is also located, while spectators access the building from the east and west. The ground floor offers entry points for both players and visitors, ensuring smooth and organized flow.
Constructed from reinforced concrete, the structure features a 4x4m caseton grid, blending seamlessly with the landscape. The use of simple materials in both the interior and exterior ensures the focus remains on the sports events, while zenith openings create captivating light and shadow effects that enhance the atmosphere within the hall.
