HOUSE ON THE SEAFRONT, COSTA BRAVA

Applied products
View all applied products

This house, situated on the seafront in Calella de Palafrugell on the Costa Brava, is a project where the Mediterranean permeates everything. Verónica Mimoun Studio signs the complete interior design, with an intervention that highlights the privileged position of the home and creates a summer house that is luminous, welcoming and full of personality. The palette is warm and natural, white, sand, oak and rattan, enlivened with touches of sea green, terracotta and coral red that evoke the marine landscape. The semicircular arches, present throughout the house, act as a unifying architectural element that gives the whole project an unmistakably Mediterranean character.

The Entrance

A black Bow console by 101 Copenhagen with its open fretwork legs, an oval mirror with a bronze frame and a green glass vase filled with red flowers announce from the very first moment the personality of the project: elegant, warm and full of colour. A bespoke lacquered white wardrobe provides discreet storage. At the far end, a semicircular arch frames the passage into the interior.

The Staircase

The stairwell is one of the most evocative spaces in the house. Mortex-clad treads, the original banister lacquered in white round tube, a large potted strelitzia in a white planter and an Ethnicraft Bok bench in natural wood on a Gun Rugs Canevas Geo Coral rug in burnt orange compose a fresh and Mediterranean image. Wooden louvred windows filter the outside light, creating a serene atmosphere in which vegetation and natural objects take centre stage.

The Living Room

The living room is conceived as the social heart of the home, in a double-height section that connects visually with the kitchen and dining room on the upper floor. Several sofas upholstered in Crevin fabric surround an Androgyne lounge table by Audo Copenhagen in natural oak — a sculptural centrepiece — set over a jute rug that anchors the composition. Decorative cushions in Casamance and Armura fabrics. To one side, an Insert side table by Ferm Living. An exposed brick fireplace adds character and memory. A circular mirror with a woven rattan frame presides over the main wall. The large anthracite-framed glazing opens fully onto the terrace, merging the interior with the sea views beyond.

The Terrace

This is the most singular space of the project: a large covered porch oriented directly toward the bay of Calella, with panoramic views over the anchored boats and the whitewashed village. The floor is clad in Mortex. Two outdoor sofas in white Güell Lamadrid fabric with piping and red cushions in Zeconzeta fabric flank a sunken fire feature that serves as the focal point. Poufs in the same chevron red-and-white cushion fabric, an anthracite outdoor dining table by Unopiù with matching chairs and a white ceiling fan complete a space designed to be lived in from sunrise to sunset — from the morning coffee to long lunches with the Mediterranean as backdrop.

The Kitchen and Dining Room

The kitchen is resolved with off-white cabinetry, a central island with a cream-toned Inalco porcelain worktop and integrated induction hob. Lighting above the island by Lodes, model A-tube suspension. Sage green stools by Pedrali, a ceiling-integrated extractor hood by Frecan and Doo Wop pendant lights by Louis Poulsen complete the space. The dining room is arranged around an Ethnicraft table in natural wood and sage green Inclass chairs, with direct sea views through the shuttered windows.

The Primary Bedroom

Bedroom and bathroom are integrated in an open sequence of great amplitude and sensoriality. The bathroom is organised around a suspended natural oak vanity with a double travertine countertop basin, brushed gold brass fittings by Zucchetti and two hanging oval mirrors. The freestanding oval bath by Hidrobox — white and elevated to capture the sea view — presides over the space, with elegant floor-mounted brass fittings. The double shower with twin rain heads in brass is framed within a sand-toned microcement volume. A aqua-tinted glass screen defines the wet area without interrupting the visual continuity. The bedroom, with direct sea views, features a headboard upholstered in Güell Lamadrid fabric, white and blush bed linen and natural oak bedside tables with Flowerpot lamps by &Tradition.

The Dressing Room Adjacent to the suite, the bespoke dressing room — lacquered in cream with a central chest of drawers and floor-to-ceiling wardrobes — offers impeccable functionality in a serene, well-lit setting.

The TV Room

Accessed through a semicircular arch, this room is organised around an aqua green sofa in Geneve Vintage fabric, a bespoke unit with open shelving and drawers, and a Samsung The Frame television integrated into the composition. A printed pouf in Zeconzeta fabric and a heavy curtain that can be drawn to privatise the space complete a room conceived for family enjoyment.

The Bedrooms

Each bedroom has its own character. The first, with two single beds, is dressed in beige Crevin fabric with terracotta and dusty rose cushions over sand-toned linen. The second — the most intimate room in the house — features a headboard upholstered in sage green Crevin fabric, a waffle blanket in the same tone and a smoked glass Gubi Seine pendant. The third is resolved with a peach-toned headboard and two Mega Bulb pendants by &Tradition in amber glass that bathe the space in warm, enveloping light.

The Bathrooms

The secondary bathrooms share a common natural and warm language: walls and floors in sand Mortex, a suspended cream-lacquered vanity with an integrated Corian white countertop basin, a full-width mirror and a rain shower by Rovira. Accessories in bottle green — soap dish, dispenser and small ceramic pieces — introduce a note of botanical colour in perfect harmony with the surroundings.

Taken as a whole, this project reflects the philosophy of Verónica Mimoun Studio: creating homes that breathe the spirit of the place where they stand, where beauty, functionality and emotion coexist in perfect balance. A house by the sea that invites you to slow down, to savour the light and to cherish the moments shared.
