Concept: ‘Panoramic’ swimming pool

Although the principal dreamt for years of a swimming pool in his small town garden, he preferred to first realize the renovation of his 17th century mansion. While the contractors were about to start the works, an abandoned school building, adjacent to his garden, was offered for sale. The principal did not hesitate, works were stopped and the school building was bought. After many analyses and intense discussions, the principal decided to realize the swimming pool first.

Swimming pool with a view

Not only the size and the unfavourable orientation of the town garden, also constructive motifs defined the concept: no swimming pool in the small sunless garden, but one on the rooftop of the old school building. An intelligent structure of columns and beams in reinforced concrete, erected inside the outer walls, is both the structural reinforcement of the neglected school building and the construction needed for the swimming pool.

The groundfloor houses an outdoor-kitchen, while the space on the first floor is polyvalent.

Feeling of freedom

On the rooftop, parapet, floors, staircases and swimming pool are finished in a white polyurea coating. The white jointless finishing together with the azure blue water creates a zen-like atmosphere. The marvellous view from the roof landscape on the surroundings increases the feeling of holidays and freedom. Who doesn’t want to have a swim after a busy workday having an astonishing view on the basilica?
