The FUTRHOMES QUANTUM is the realization of a 10-year pursuit, to offer the fabled "home of tomorrow" to prospective buyers, at a market price. Like all projects, this one has a story that seems to define the end result through inspiration and epiphanies, with specific goals and objectives to be met. This is that story.
FUTRHOMES, LLC was just an idea in 2014 that was birthed when the owner, Vincent Black, saw a magnificent modern home online that captured the imagination and sparked the quest to understand how this magnificent house (The Burlingame Residence by Toby Long Designs) could be constructed as a modular home. The quest yielded in forming the company, and later registering it in 2019 as a LLC to properly pursue developing the results of the research into a unique design that could be constructed. The QUANTUM was initially created in 2022, and underwent numerous changes before the final result in 2023. The objective established for the home was to build a modern styled home, with home automation and other smart technologies, while addressing ecological concerns, such as air and water quality, as well as energy efficiencies.
To call The QUANTUM just a "Smart Home" would be deficient, as it does not capture all of the nuances and features in this abode. Granted, it does have the essentials like smart switches, motion sensors, RGBW Lighting in the ceiling, and can be controlled by schedule, sensors, app or voice through the commercially available Amazon Echo smart assistants. However, that is just the tip of the iceberg. Our solution was to develop the “Omni System”, which incorporates the aforementioned items along with other "smart features", such as the Multi-Zone Mini-Split System that features the Compact Ceiling Cassettes and allows you to individually manage the climate of each of the bedrooms or the family room / kitchen area.
The smart toilets with the comfort of heated seats that auto open, close, and flush, while reducing the need for tissue paper due to the warm water bidet and air dryer. The bathroom sinks include a pullout sprayer for extended use options, and a water fountain spring, making it easy to get water while brushing your teeth, or a sip at night. The included whole home air purifier has a HEPA Filter, can be programmed, monitors your air quality and automatically engages to purge airborne particles and viruses, while working in concert with the air ionizers in each room to ensure the air in the home is clean and fresher than outdoors. Along with these items, we included a whole home water purifier with UV light that kills bacteria, ensuring each faucet in the home provides clean water. In culmination of the major features, the bathroom and kitchen areas utilize UV and HEV Lighting, similar to those in hospitals, to clean surfaces of viruses, effective even against the SARS-2 (COVID). And the kitchen utilizes some of the top-grade smart appliances from LG and Samsung. And this is just part of the feature-rich appointments in the QUANTUM, which even many million dollar residential offerings may not have. And those are the standard equipment items.
The efficiencies of the QUANTUM can be found in a few areas. The water purification system is included in response to reports of water quality concerns in the drinking water supply in many towns and cities. This was considered essential when building the "home of tomorrow", because clean water should be a given. The same can be stated with the air purification system. In a post COVID world, this is paired with the UV/HEV lighting to help keep the family safer from these concerns. And when it comes to energy efficiencies, The QUANTUM has a certified H.E.R.S. rating of 58, making it 42% more energy efficient than other newly constructed homes in 2024. So, when adding smart energy management from home automation to this scenario, we have seen average monthly electric bills under $90, while keeping the home cool at a crisp 74 degrees in the heat of Summer.
The design of the QUANTUM utilizes FUTRHOMES Moderno Design Language, which focuses on the basic shapes of squares and rectangles, and the intersection of lines reducing costs and improving the flow that produces elegance through simplicity. Moderno is an amalgam of styles that utilizes a fusion of modern influences, from Swedish and Japanese minimalism, American Craftsman and Mid-Century Modern. The company refers to this style as "Neo-Century Modern", as it must also adhere to standard building code materials and components while trying to capture the essence of these design influences in this new century. It was a euphoric discovery to find that part of the modern movement has origins in the works of Piet Mondrian, the father of Neo-Plasticism, and the movement emphasized these same attributes in art as well as architecture, with the love of modern design and its timeless beauty in the simplicity of shapes and lines. This epiphany makes our style moniker more suitable, as it also serves as a tribute to Mondrian's works.
In conclusion, FUTRHOMES is a single-family residential developer in Charlotte, NC whose pursuit to build a modern styled home with home automation and other smart technologies, culminated in the creation of The QUANTUM, an energy efficient modern ranch home with 3 bedrooms and 3 en-suite bathrooms.
