“THE RENAISSANCE THEATRES” is our team’s latest project located within VIA RIYADH, the world’s premier destination for experiencing luxury and cutting-edge technology, steeped in local tradition and heritage. At the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, adjacent to the Royal Palace and the iconic Ritz Carlton, 7 luxury multi-themed cinema auditoriums await VVIP customers to provide an unparalleled experience that is unmatched anywhere else in the world.
The project is part of the SAUDI VISION 2030 framework, a government program aiming at the economic diversification, social development, and cultural advancement of the country, according to the vision of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The project was designed and built utilizing BIM methodology allowing us, from the early stages of the study, to provid the client with the opportunity for timely visualization of the final outcome, ensuring not only acceptance but also a sense of security regarding the quality of the work. In addition to visualization, there was coordination among various studies (architectural, structural, mechanical, etc.) to better organize procurement and work activities. This allowed us to adhere to the strict project deadlines, making it the first to be delivered within the VIA RIYADH framework.
Its concept "One Location - 7 Destinations" encapsulates the essence of the vision and desires of the client. A prototype project that serves as a reference point. Rich heritage, unique architecture, influences from the Western world, luxury, one-of-a-kind elements, and modernization trends are some of the factors that led to the birth of the world's unique “THE RENAISSANCE THEATRES”.
The project consists of 3 levels. The highest one is a specially designed entrance for welcoming VVIP guests. The intermediate is the central entrance of the customers featuring luxury handmade furniture out of gold and marble. Waiting areas have been defined with the use of vertical metal structures that have been covered with fabric or mirror, providing to visitors a first meeting point. The majestic elliptical staircase, leading to the lower level, is cladded in custom cut black marble. Gold details add another touch of luxury to the lobby. The corridor leading to the rooms is bordered by a 9-meter-high façade with a large scale custom printed vinyl wallpaper applied on it.
By creating multithemed rooms, the visitor has various reasons to revisit the cinema, ensuring a fresh experience with each visit. One of the challenges of acoustic spaces is the strict specification of materials and design solutions that can be applied. The “Box in a Box” method was applied in this case to provide the perfect cinematic experience. Sound absorption, spatial properties, reverberation, and diffraction were attributes that largely determined the final selection of materials. Dark velvet acoustic linings were preferred on the perimeter acoustic walls. All recesses were lined with custom-made acoustic panels of various shapes and fabrics. The design for each auditorium was tailored to reflect the essence of its theme while ensuring it seamlessly integrates with the overall visitor experience, without compromising it.
We established a collection of seven cinema rooms, all officially certified by Dolby Atmos. We installed state-of-the-art Samsung Onyx screens, renowned for their superior brightness, contrast, and rich color spectrum. Overcoming yet another challenge, we successfully sourced all materials, equipment, and furniture exclusively from the Greek market. Equally vital was the exceptional, high-quality collaboration with local manufacturers, ensuring seamless on-site execution. Below, we outline the specifics of each room encountered by visitors in the following sequence:
The "AVANT GRADE" auditorium stands out as an innovative, daring, and revolutionary space, surpassing even the highest standards in Saudi Arabia. Its striking design serves as a bold statement, setting the stage for the diverse and unparalleled journey that lies ahead. Featuring four pairs of reclining beds, meticulously crafted in Greece, each equipped with headboards for enhanced privacy, the room exudes luxury. With a dominant navy-blue color scheme complemented by unique red or gold artifact lamps, it offers a truly immersive experience.
Moving on to the enchanting "SECRET GARDEN" auditorium, guests are greeted by vertical gardens, floral acoustic panels, and an abundance of lush greenery, evoking the serene ambiance of a secluded garden. The inclusion of garden furniture such as hanging chairs and poufs further enhances the sensation of watching a film within the confines of one's own private oasis.
Next on we visit "ORIENT EXPRESS," where guests step aboard the iconic train wagon that served as inspiration for this unique room. Custom-made tufted chairs, upholstered in rich brown leather, accompany wooden tables and double Chesterfield sofas, evoking the lavish interiors of the legendary train. Golden rods, alcove curtains, graphic lamps, and concealed lighting transport you directly into the opulent ambiance of this extraordinary locomotive.
Following the extensive desert journey, we encounter the tranquil "OASIS." This room embodies relaxation and leisure, featuring custom-made poufs, hammocks, and pools filled with countless balls for the little ones to enjoy. Intricate wall structures, coupled with concealed lighting, recreate the serene landscape of desert dunes and distant horizons, immersing guests in an oasis-like experience.
Exploring the distinctive characteristics of Saudi Arabia, we couldn't overlook the inclusion of an auditorium reflecting traditional architectural elements. Influenced deeply by the region's dry climate and strict socio-cultural norms, "TUWAIQ" posed the greatest challenge for our team, yet it remains the most frequently visited room. Its design demanded meticulous attention to detail, featuring handcrafted wooden doors, intricately carved plaster set against a sand-colored backdrop, triangular decorative openings, tree trunk accents on the ceiling, and locally sourced traditional fabrics. The layout, reminiscent of the Π-shaped living spaces found in homes centered around open courtyards, honors the local culture of hospitality. Our goal was to seamlessly integrate modern materials and technology while preserving the essence of traditional architecture.
Moving beyond history and into the contemporary era, we transition to "WALL STREET," symbolizing growth and advancement. This versatile space is designed not only for film screenings but also for corporate meetings or presentations. The predominant shades of gray in the perimeter curtains and flooring exude an aura of elegance and sophistication, setting a tone of professionalism. While maintaining a non-intrusive presence, it instills a sense of tranquility and stability. Complemented by turquoise-blue sofas spanning the room, the atmosphere evokes the anticipation of an exhilarating sequel, marking a promising beginning.
Concluding our journey, we arrive at, "INTERSTELLAR." The final auditorium boasts state-of-the-art technology. Featuring one of the world's largest Samsung Onyx 4K screens, Dolby Atmos sound system, and luxurious fully reclining leather seats, it offers an unparalleled cinematic experience. The ceiling fulled with starry fiber optics and the striking color-changing lighting, along with the meticulously crafted seats, guarantee an immersive journey into outer space.
