The Village House 2.0

The Village House 2.0 is located on a moderately sized 405 square metre lot in the leafy suburb of Paddington in Brisbane, Queensland. The house name is derived from the neighbouring house, another Joe Adsett Architects project, located on an identical sized piece of land with the same site orientation and amenity.

Similar to the majority of houses in the area, the existing pre-1946 Queenslander dwelling on the property is recognised as a 'character' home, and therefore had to be preserved with any proposed works to the site. The project consists of a renovation to the existing home with re-purposed internal zones, and a substantial contemporary extension to the rear of the property.

The design of the home capitalises on maximising natural amenities such as natural light and cross ventilation throughout the dwelling. This is achieved through an abundance of operable glazing and internal / external double-height voids over the living and dining areas. A strategy also implemented to make the modest sized dwelling feel bigger due to the narrow site constraints.
