Differences in symbolic harmony
A family of three chose an apartment in the extension of an art nouveau house near Letenské park for their life. Father, mother and son: three personalities that support a strong bond, but at the same time each is characterized by their own interests and different requirements for life and living. In her latest realization, architect Iva Hájková was inspired by family, differences and mutual members, which she brought into symbolic harmony through three stones, the central points of connecting the airy interior.
The apartment is dominated by a generous living space with a kitchen, which is followed by two bedrooms. The architect worked with the given layouts and original elements, which are parquet floors and doors. The layout of the two bathrooms has changed: a new master bathroom and a separate toilet with storage space have been created. Thanks to careful work with the preservation of the layout and the incorporation of existing high-quality wooden floors and lacquered doors, the clients were able to use the funds for designer, custom-made furniture and quality materials.
Contemporary elements in a historical space
History is prescribed in the form of the apartment not only by the material design, but also by the very division of the rooms. The kitchen maintains the original layout in a line, it is not separated from the free space by a kitchen island. A solitary dining table designed by a designer to suit the interior becomes the central point. The present is represented, for example, by the asymmetry of kitchen cabinets, perforated metal on traditional covers for radiators or sideboards, or a wooden bookcase with variable opening that allows you to hide or reveal the TV screen. The neutral palette of shades in the interior is complemented by contrasting white details. The understated color of the interior is provided by a number of plants and decorations.
Stone as a symbol
The less space is occupied by colors, the more the dominant motif of the apartment stands out: stones of three different shades, which symbolize the three different personalities of individual family members. Choosing the stones themselves was a big challenge. The resulting variant arose from the requirement of practicality: the kitchen counter was filled with technical stone, the dining table top is made of quartzite, and the cabinet under the aquarium is made of marble. Although at first glance they differ from each other, they are connected by fine veining, durability and timeless appearance.
With the help of stones and soft warm colors, the interior of the superstructure of the old art nouveau house was given a historicistic and at the same time modern, timeless atmosphere.
