Timber House is a revolutionary residential complex situated in Brooklyn, New York, boasting a unique distinction as the first mass-timber condominium in the New York region. This six-story, fourteen-unit building showcases a commitment to sustainability through its innovative use of glue-laminated timber columns, beams, and floorplates. The mass timber construction not only reduces the building's carbon footprint but also promotes eco-friendliness by utilizing fast-growing standard lumber that can be quickly replenished.
The building's design prioritizes energy efficiency, achieving passive-house-level performance through generous insulation, air sealing, triple-glazed windows, and energy-recovering ventilation. The absence of combustion and the incorporation of high-efficiency heat pumps and induction cooking further emphasize the building's dedication to environmental responsibility. Additionally, the presence of electric charging stations and solar panels on the roof underscores the complex's focus on renewable energy sources.
The interior spaces are characterized by generously sized rooms with ceiling heights of nearly 11 feet, creating a sense of openness and airiness. The exterior is clad with Danish brick from Petersen-Tegl, adding a touch of sophistication to the building's façade. The custom hexagonal floor tiles, designed by MESH, and the cutting-edge LED tape fixtures from Kelvix contribute to the building's modern aesthetic. With its unique blend of sustainability, energy efficiency, and sleek design, Timber House sets a new standard for residential complexes in the region. Completed in 2022, this groundbreaking project is a testament to the potential of innovative design and eco-friendly construction.
