BEHF architects: Talking Watches

Timelounge is a speciality store for luxury watches located in the Palais Esterhazy in Vienna. The main objective of the refurbishment was to modernize the space and double the exhibition capacity. BEHF Architects successfully created a unique and highly recognizable presence within a compact area of just over 100 m2.

The exterior, with its heritage protected appearance, has been handled with particular sensitvity: The new Timelounge presents itself reorganized and restructured facade while still preserving its original DNA.

BEHF Architects have created a strong contrast through the use of earthy materials in shades of gray. This powerful contrast enhances the existing structure and beautifully juxtaposes the delicate nature of the watches. The intentional use of leather, rough lime plaster, and terrazzo, as opposed to smooth, polished, and glossy surfaces, creates a serene and almost sacred atmosphere. The design elemens are internationally subdued, allowing the light to shine and highlight the space.

The leather covered desks resemble altars. Here, customers can examine the selected watch and receive detailed advice. On the other hand, the glass cases present the watches, completed by digital displays to enhance communication.

A special accent is the art of the popular Austrian artist Erwin Wurm, used in a pointed manner (lemon object).
