Tong Building does away with the usual podium block for commercial use and in its place a forecourt facing Orchard Road is provided. Clarity in the external composition is provided by the tile-clad four-corner service cores and the in-filling curtain wall. This strategy is also carried further as a structural idea, leading to column-free offices supported on corner service cores.
