cor light as Architects

This project, developed in cooperation with the planning office Battistini who were commissioned by the Province of Bergamo, is the first time that cor light LED technology is being used for the illumination of a large area traffic hub.

The "T-System" is in use, with a mounting height of 22 m in the central roundabout area and "FO" series products with a mounting height of 9 m for the approach road area. The lighting systems are produced by ewo, a manufacturer of high-end lighting solutions. The concept of the products is based upon a modular form of construction. Because of the specific illumination requirements, the system is fitted with the appropriate number of LED lighting units. In this way, it is possible to fine tune the performance in stages to ensure that the system only uses as much energy as is required to fulfil the prerequisites.

In compliance with the EN 13201 norm, the illumination in the roundabout area was achieved using the DP 31 lighting unit to provide the classification CE2 with a medium illumination factor of 20 lx. The approach roads are illuminated with the DS 31 lighting unit in compliance with the illumination category ME3a. Ing. Alain Mazzocchi, the project manager responsible from the Province of Bergamo, is clearly delighted about the potential energy saving of the installation: "With the LED solution we are able to make an energy saving of over 40%, compared to the originally planned solution."

The LED lighting units are powered with 350 mA providing an output of 10.8 W. 3 x 3 9 CREE XP-G LEDs were installed per module, each with an output of 139 lm/LED (6000 K). The precision optics are arranged in such a way that light beams in the upper area are completely avoided, thus preventing light pollution.
