True South

Located on Black Rock’s Beach Road, True South offers a handcrafted beer selection, fine dining, function and event spaces. The building was originally used as a panel beating workshop, with the trade on display through an open garage shop front. Showcasing industrial craftsmanship became the central theme for True South’s interiors.

The original 1930’s industrial façade was carefully restored to achieve an understated, historical presence. Exposed rafters and cross bracing reference 1930’s construction methods. Local bricks together with a timber and steel frame maintain a workshop aesthetic. Today, the site operates as a true artisan brewery. The copper pipes, tanks and inner workings of the craft are on permanent display for patrons behind glazed panels. An open warehouse space combines a restaurant / bar environment at ground level, while the function space on the first floor opens to a large terrace with views over Port Phillip Bay and Black Rock’s clock tower.
