The new U5 station at the entrance to Hamburg’s major event venues combines the functional requirements of event and regular operations with a clear architectural gesture: a place defined by lightness, openness, and the responsible use of resources. A lightweight, column-free timber roof with integrated photovoltaics spans the station space. Through structural honesty and the innovative use of timber, the station becomes an identity-forming place that enhances the quality of life in the surrounding neighbourhood and builds anticipation for the events to come.
