"Minimalism and restraint, with a maximalist opening to the outdoors"
In a house located in Sharon area, near one of the most beautiful beaches in Israel, lives a family with school-age children. Verd Blatman Cohen, the architect, explains that the couple wanted to incorporate a Zen concept in the house that advocates minimalism and restraint, along with a maximalist opening to the outside, to the garden view and the swimming pool.

The structure of the house is like a rectangular box, from which spaces have been cut to become patios, allowing the outside to enter the house. From a functional point of view, the house is like a sequence of fragments in which the public space unites. This means that the functions of the house: the guest room, the study room, the master bedroom, the children's rooms, and the kitchen, are like arms, semi-independent, of the central space - the living room.

For example, a protective courtyard separates the parents' bedroom from the living room, as well as between the children's rooms and the service area next to the entrance. On the other hand, the entire western side of the house is united by a huge pergola that penetrates the structures and connects them together. The pergola is made of white iron profiles and is a sort of mediator between the inside and the outside. This is the place that has a pleasant breeze because of its proximity to the sea, so sitting outside is an essential part of the house.

The finishing materials of the house interior, as well as the exterior ones, advocate the minimalist ideology. Using a palette of materials and a little, almost monochromatic color to create silence. White walls, hidden and painted white cabinets, light oak parquet floor, a material that repeats itself also in the details of the furniture and carpentry. Use of fabrics in a natural and light shade.

Vered Blatman Cohen: "The need for minimalism stems from a desire for serenity. There is a lot of love in this house because it connects with nature. When you sit inside the house, the boundaries between the house and the yard blur."
