The Venepoort Bolwerk was a core part of Hasselt's fortifications, whose origins go back to the Eighty Years' War. The old contour disappeared and later the Bodewes shipyard settled in 1923 on the location of the former bastion. Now the next phase of transformation begins: the location is being transformed into a recreational area. The old contour of the stronghold is brought back as an image from the city to its original location: the green bastion 'Venepoort Bolwerk'. The holiday homes are located on the water side, hidden in a green dike body. From the city and the Hasselterweg there is a view of a green bastion with a large city park. The green dike body also ensures that the houses are not affected by the noise from de Hasselterweg. The entrances to the houses are designed as wedges in the green bastion.
From the water side, a different picture emerges; robust masonry facades with an industrially designed apartment hotel on the tip of the bastion. The building is designed as four interconnected industrial buildings, referring to its history as a shipyard. For the visitor of the park it is possible to approach the water around the apartment hotel.
