Vertical Haven is an urban residential project located in the inner-city area of Hanoi, designed to address typical challenges of narrow and elongated urban plots, such as lighting, ventilation, and privacy. With a plot size of 7x12 meters, the house has only one side facing the street, while the other three sides are adjacent to other buildings, necessitating a creative and flexible design approach.
The starting point for the design solution was the homeowner’s desire for a spacious, comfortable living space that ensures both safety and privacy. These are not only basic criteria but also significant challenges, requiring sufficient natural light and air circulation throughout the house while maintaining the necessary privacy and security. To achieve this, the design team from LADD Jsc. and THREEPLUS Design incorporated two skylights at the back of the house on either side of the elevator to facilitate air circulation and bring light deep into the interior. This solution ensures ventilation and brings daylight deep into the home's spaces.
The facade of the house is designed with a double layer, featuring vertical steel louver panels combined with large glass windows. This arrangement ensures privacy while allowing natural light and air to flow into the interior. The steel louvers can be adjusted, creating an interaction with the outdoor environment while still maintaining security and seclusion for the family.
The atrium connecting the living room and dining area serves as a focal point in creating a link between the spaces. It is a place where family members can interact naturally, while the skylight and front loggia bring an airy and dynamic atmosphere to the space. The internal spiral staircase is not only an impressive design feature but also creates a direct connection between the upper floors, optimizing space usage without disrupting the spatial continuity.
Additionally, the connection between people and nature is emphasized through the design of loggias and rooftop areas. On the top floor, the outdoor space is utilized with green planters and a vegetable-growing area, creating a feeling of closeness to nature while providing a place for relaxation and gathering with family and friends.
Vertical Haven is a creative and flexible solution that meets the stringent requirements of the homeowner while addressing the challenges of a narrow urban lot. This living space not only meets functional needs but also creates a connection between people and the environment, providing a harmonious and friendly living experience.
