“Vishraam – Vaadi nu Ghar” translates to “Vishraam – A Home in the Orchard.”
The word “Vishraam” in Gujarati means rest, pause, or a sense of calm. The home embodies that very emotion a place designed for slowing down and reconnecting with oneself amidst nature. “Vaadi nu Ghar” literally means a house within the orchard, symbolizing its rootedness in the landscape and its harmony with the surrounding greens. Together, the title reflects the project’s essence a serene retreat that balances contemporary comfort with the tranquility of its natural setting.
The design celebrates stillness, nature, and rootedness. It harmoniously blends architecture with the orchard landscape, ensuring the structure feels placed rather than imposed. Every decision from site orientation to material palette is guided by a deep respect for context, climate, and the emotional essence of Vaadi life.

Vishraam emerges from the idea of pause a moment of stillness within nature’s rhythm. The design celebrates the symbiotic relationship between built and unbuilt, where the orchard landscape defines the architecture rather than merely surrounding it. Each spatial gesture seeks to honor the land preserving trees, framing river views, and inviting natural light and breeze to shape the experience of living. The home is envisioned as a quiet continuum between structure and soil, enclosure and openness, shelter and sky. The materiality, scale, and spatial sequence together create a grounded, timeless environment that encourages introspection and repose. At its core, Vishraam isn’t just a house in a Vaadi; it is an architectural expression of calm, shaped by the client’s cultural roots and the spirit of the place.
Vishram is a serene ground-touch structure offering breathtaking views of the Purna River. Nestled amidst lush Amba and Chikoo Vaadi, the design prioritizes preserving the existing trees, ensuring a harmonious blend with the natural landscape.
Through meticulous site planning, the structure’s layout aligns parallel to the riverbank and the site boundary, this maximizes river views and creates a seamless visual and physical connection to the natural surroundings. This thoughtful orientation enhances the interaction with the waterfront, establishing inviting sightlines and an immersive spatial experience. The paved entrance leads to the caretaker’s guestroom and designated parking spaces, providing functional yet unobtrusive access. The main structure is defined by two imposing brick-clad walls, carefully designed to emphasize key axes. These are complemented by saw-toothed walls with sand-faced plaster, imparting an earthy and grounded aesthetic.
Green pockets, open-to-sky spaces, and strategically placed glass skylights allow natural light to flow freely, fostering a profound connection to nature. All living spaces are thoughtfully connected to these green zones, with the living room positioned to offer uninterrupted views of the river. The dual-sided open living area bridges the indoor and outdoor worlds, connecting the front landscape to the riverside. Two verandas—one facing the landscaped front and the other overlooking the riverside—further enhance the connection to nature.
A key feature of Vishraam is its gazebo, perfectly positioned by the river to amplify the experience of the outdoor space. The interplay of greenery, openness, and warmth transforms this home into a tranquil retreat, fulfilling the client’s vision of living in harmony with the natural environment.
