This classic and elegant house is located between Pilar and Sant Francesc neighborhoods at Valencia.
The North orientation, together with unobstructed views over a small park, give it a constant and continuous illumination throughout the day.
The project conceptually preserves the distribution scheme and respects the existing molded ceilings of all the spaces linked to the facade, but the costumers needs force to modificate the original rooms by introducing a set of volumes and cuts in the ceiling.
The distribution and location of the facilities requires a long circulation, from the lobby to the kitchen. That's why the project tries to blur the length of the route to the maximum. In this way, the hall is treated as a large white space that acts as a distributor for the room area; while the corridor, to which the toilets turn, is separated from the living room by a two-sided furniture whose openings and gaps control the views and open the visuals. In addition, this spectacular piece of furniture contains a varied storage program, TV cabinet, bookcase, pantry ...
This piece of furniture of complex composition is treated as an exempt volume that dominates the space of the living room, becoming the principal character of the house. The contrast between the veneered oak, the lacquered petroleum blue and the clean and white atmosphere of the space makes it an object with value in itself. Only the herringbone floor, and the stone-looking tiled (and countertops) compete in prominence when touring the rest of the rooms of the house.
At night, when the soft northern light disappears, artificial lighting turns the house. The white walls and ceilings that were once only the backdrop of the new textures, shapes and colors, expressively show strong contrasts caused by flush lighting to remind us of what this elegant home was once.
