Wisselspoor is a masterplan by Studioninedots and Delva Landscape for a former railway service area in Utrecht. Based on the concept of the City Plot development strategy, the area will be developed into a new district with a lively mix of functions and typologies, taking its industrial heritage as the defining character for future developments.

Within the first phase of this masterplan  of 11acres, we designed 12 single family houses, a block with three large apartments and a building with 31 small studios. The masterplan defined a strict set of aesthetical rules in terms of material use, roof shape and composition for the buildings that guarantee an over-all coherent industrial character of the area.

With these rules we designed several families of houses that apply these rules in a singular manner, taking one basic material for each of them: brick, concrete or wood, giving them a robust exterior character, that contrasts with light and spacious interiors.
