The multidisciplinary Hamburg-based Studio Besau-Marguerre has realized a pioneering interior design concept for a new „WorkLifeSpace“ in the Apartimentum in Hamburg for new-work specialist and founder of the agency Thjnk, Michael Trautmann. In the new and modern building with a historic Wilhelminian façade dating from 1906, the Hamburg-based design studio worked together with Vitra to create a 225 m² innovative living and working space that spans two floors. Central task was to design flexible spaces that can be used as both private and public areas. With numerous interior design projects, such as the furnishing of the renowned Elbphilharmonie concert hall, the design of the ABOUT YOU photo studio, both in Hamburg, and numerous store and trade fair stand concepts for clients such as Vitra, Artek and Thonet, the multidisciplinary Studio Besau-Marguerre again proves its expertise by developing the interior design concept of the “WorklifeSpace” in the Apartimentum.
THE INTERIOR DESIGN CONCEPT
Studio Besau-Marguerre was commissioned by the new-work specialist and founder of the agency Thjnk, Michael Trautmann, to create an interior concept for a new „WorkLifeSpace“ in the Apartimentum in Hamburg. The concept should correspond with the architecture of the Apartimentum and meet the requirements of new work and modern life. The “WorkLifeSpace” is to be rented out as an exclusive workshop space and is to be so changeable that everything from classic workshops to smaller lectures to dinners can be held here. The objective was for the rooms to have hidden functions and be able to be quickly and flexibly adapted to the needs of the respective user - in line with the core idea of the smart home apartment.
Behind the Wilhelminian façade of the Apartimentum hides a new building in a class of its own with numerous technical refinements: Commissioned by entrepreneur Lars Hinrichs, founder of the Xing portal, the German equivalent to LinkedIn, a modern apartment building was built a few years ago in which everything revolves around state-of-the-art technology. Studio Besau-Marguerre has now realized an innovative hybrid between living and working with versatile zones on two floors that alternate between private and public. At the center of their interior concept is the large living space, which not only connects the two floors of the maisonette, but also allows flexible design for different occasions, both public and private. Different communication spaces are created here, from the classic dining or meeting situation, to workshop settings for small groups, to small lecture situations, the space can be quickly and flexibly reconfigured and adapted to current needs. For the furnishings, the Hamburg-based design duo collaborated with renowned manufacturer Vitra and selected furniture pieces that promote casual, open and productive exchanges. Studio Besau-Margeurre also developed a carefully selected colour concept for Trautmann, who runs a podcast on the topic of New Work in addition to his agency Thjnk. The colour concept ranges from light blue-mint tones to dark green and anthracite in the fireplace room, where the podcasts can be recorded. In the fireplace room, therefore, the interior design focuses on good acoustics and a warm, cozy atmosphere that invites for conversation. The colour scheme is broken up by individual pieces of furniture, such as the yellow Soft Work Sofa from Vitra - visual highlights that also enable various small conversation or work situations in the new „WorkLifeSpace“.
