Yi Sang is a Chinese fine-dining concept developed for Phnom Penh’s urban professionals, translating cultural heritage into a contemporary dining environment. The project positions the restaurant as a space that supports both high-turnover business lunches and extended dining experiences, balancing operational efficiency with a clear and consistent brand identity.
Spatial planning and dining experience
The layout is organized to support a range of dining formats, from individual seating to small group gatherings. Curved banquettes and defined seating zones structure the space, allowing for privacy while maintaining visual continuity. This approach ensures efficient circulation and table turnover while supporting a comfortable and focused dining environment.
Material identity and cultural reference
The interior is defined by a controlled palette of warm red tones, olive green velvet, timber, and patterned terrazzo flooring. Brass elements, referencing traditional gongs, are integrated into lighting fixtures and screens to reinforce cultural continuity within a contemporary setting. A custom counter composed of chopstick rests introduces a crafted focal point, while a curated tea display near the entrance establishes an immediate connection to the culinary narrative.
Atmosphere and environmental control
Lighting is layered to support different dining conditions, from daytime service to evening operations. Soft illumination is coordinated with material textures to create a consistent visual environment that supports conversation and comfort. Subtle patterned wall finishes are aligned with Feng Shui principles, contributing to a balanced spatial experience without compromising clarity or functionality.
Yi Sang establishes a dining environment that aligns cultural reference, material consistency, and operational performance, contributing to Phnom Penh’s evolving hospitality landscape.
