FORWARD-LOOKING WELLNESS Wellness meets sustainability at the Mawell Resort in Langenburg. The TOTO toilets and WASHLETs installed here continue this principle.

Mawell Resort in Langenburg achieves a serene, relaxing atmosphere through natural construction materials and the ubiquitous panoramic view of the beautiful cultivated landscape. This is one way in which the hotel merges the ideas of sustainability and wellness. Guests enter the reception area through a 150-metre long “deceleration hall”, featuring interesting windows and changing exhibitions. The cavernous wellness area, part of which is built into the side of the cliff, includes a sauna and pool in a glass tower 27 metres high. Here, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Hohenlohe Plain, deep Jagsttal valley and nearby historic town, including Renaissance palace.

Opened last September, Mawell Resort is an extraordinary wellness hotel in Langenburg near Schwäbisch Hall. Operator Wolfgang Maier, a local supplier of prefabrication systems, focused specifically on the beneficial, comforting ambiance of natural materials from the surrounding region in the planning and design of this resort. Oak, spruce and birch, as well as shell limestone and jura stone set the tone for the entire complex.

Maximum hygiene without aggressive cleansers. Maier also concentrated on ensuring that all energy and water was supplied from the region. “Electricity and heat are supplied by a nearby biogas plant and our own hotel cogeneration unit,” he explained. “The water for the outdoor areas comes from our own well.” These are just some ways that Maier combines the ideas of sustainability and wellness at this hotel. This philosophy also impacted how he furnished the bathrooms: The 58 TOTO NC collection toilets used in the 57 rooms and 11 suites at Mawell Resorts feature the powerful Tornado Flush, highly effective and among the leaders in water conservation.

This system creates a powerful whirlpool which thoroughly eliminates waste, bacteria and dirt from the entire toilet bowl – and only uses 3 or 4.5 litres of water. With the extremely smooth special CeFiONtect glaze and rimless design, TOTO toilets can achieve the greatest possible hygiene – without aggressive cleansers. An expert report from Prof Dr Klaus-Dieter Zastrow, a renowned doctor for hygiene and environmental medicine, concluded that the innovative flush systems featured on all TOTO toilets essentially prevent the spread of intestinal pathogens. This makes TOTO toilets ideal for use in hotels and other hygiene-critical areas.

Hotel guests appreciate the TOTO GL WASHLET The eight exclusive rooms feature GL WASHLETs. The toilet with bidet function allows guests to enjoy comfortable cleansing with warm water. It is possible to adjust the water pressure, type and position of spray, and the water temperature. The toilet seat is heated, and a filter system prevents unpleasant odours. “At first, our guests just smile when we show them the WASHLET,” observed Maier. “When they leave, however, they don’t want to live without one.” If guest feedback continues to be positive, the hotelier plans to replace the other 50 toilets in the rooms and suites with GL WASHLETs. Any TOTO toilet can be easily converted with a WASHLET – even during business hours.

In addition to the convenient comfort upgrade option, Maier was also impressed by the WASHLET’s space-saving design: “Originally, I wanted to install bidets in the rooms and suites,” explained Maier. “But then I wouldn’t have had space for bathtubs, and I definitely wanted those.” TOTO WASHLETs combine the technologies of a toilet and a bidet and enhance these to include other comfortable functions. In this way, they solve the space problem in the bathrooms – and are still in line with Maier’s ideas of wellness.

3,500 square metres of wellness Mawell Resort has a 3,500 square metres wellness area featuring a steam room, saltwater pool and a salt-steam room in which salt water trickles over blackthorn branches, opening the airways. This entire area is built into the cliff. The facility also has other saunas and outdoor pools, as well as relaxation and beauty areas. The hotel has flat green roofs with a walking track as well as a variety of outdoor fitness equipment. The hotel restaurant and spacious terrace focuses on regional ingredients. Guests are very impressed with the amenities at Mawell Resort: “We are usually completely booked at the weekends and during holidays,” said Maier proudly, “and we also host a large number of business travellers for conferences and meetings during the week.”
