Ao intervir num espaço como este apartamento, não se deve interferir na arquitetura existente. Mais do que propor, era preciso omitir, reformar e integrar. Era fundamental intervir neste apartamento da forma mais limpa e silenciosa para melhor responder às suas novas necessidades.
O edifício onde este apartamento está inserido foi originalmente concebido como um Hotel Particulier. O apartamento ocupa todo o 1º andar, originalmente dedicado às áreas sociais - nomeadamente 11 salões, um dos quais utilizado como casa de banho. Assim como o andar social, quase todas as paredes e tetos desses quartos foram decorados com ricas pinturas murais.

ESQVTA luxury housing | Porto | 2018
In the city of Porto, it was recognized that there would be a business opportunity in urban rehabilitation. This opportunity aims to open luxury housing units for short rentals, which are always located in historic buildings of architectural and design value and in privileged locations.
Having this in consideration ESQVTA acquired and refurbished a luxury apartment that would permit access to national and international public to the 15 year old ESQVTA’s aesthetic and lifestyle that had until that point only been available to clients. The apartment is part of a 19th century building with large rooms and generous ceiling heights.

One project, two sides, two programs, two languages, two spaces in one.
To the west is the area intended for the owner’s housing with a simple program. The house is defined by the light and the framing of the trees of the most imponent avenue in Porto. To the east is the workspace with a complex program, facing inland.
The apartment is placed in an Art Nouveau building that was awarded the Valmor Prize in 1915. At the request of the owner, the entire interior should not be touched so as not to destroy or alter the classified heritage.

The area of intervention is made up of two adjacent units in a monotonous office Building in Porto. The area is defined by a 10,5 by 8,5 meters rectangle with all windows oriented west and the entrance on the opposite side.
The program consisted of one reception area with access to a kitchenet and bathroom and to two offices connected to a meetings and exhibition area.
Absolute freedom regarding aesthetics, in an office that will host activities connected to sports, allowed for the experimentation of various finishes and lighting options.
