The August
The August is one of five social housing blocks in the new residential area Overhoeks in Amsterdam-Noord. The challenge was to create affordable houses, aesthetically competing with the surrounding luxury residential complexes. Coming home, feeling at home and soft surroundings were important design themes.

Soft surroundingsThe August, like many other residential blocks in Overhoeks, has seven floors with a U-shaped floor plan. As a counterpart to the rigid urban structure, the building design is ‘softened’ with rounded corners, pastel colours and tangible finishings. De Nieuwe Rietwijker
The Parlevinkerplein in Amsterdam-Noord will have a new cultural center for the Banne-Noord district. The center features a theater hall, various activity rooms and a large meeting room on the ground floor and a breeding ground for artists on the upper floors. The municipality of Amsterdam Art & Culture is the client for the cultural part, the Buurtcentra Foundation is the client for the breeding ground. Rochdale is delegated developer.
NEXT's design is based on an open structure in which connection is central, a robust framework that is flexible and multifunctional. Hooghout is a residential building that was a joint private commission developed by the construction group Het Hooghout. The building contains homes, a commercial space and an underground car park.

De Jakoba
De Jakoba brings new energy to the Overhoeks neighbourhood in Amsterdam-Noord. In 'Manhattan at the IJ', as the new city district which fronts the IJ harbour opposite Central Station is also referred to, De Jakoba introduces one of two new social housing complexes. Making use of form and smart building methods, we realised a powerful and qualitative building within budget for any Dutch social housing development, and a recognisable place that people are proud to live in and want to care for.
