Reimagining Easdale – Design Competition

A rustic charm envelops visitors as they alight from a ferry and enter Easdale, an island in Scotland that exudes a rugged grace amidst the pleasing sight of nature’s vivid beauty. Being home to seven slate quarries, a tragic night in 1881 brought along with it a massive flood that ruined the quarries. Gradually reviving its glory, the island’s survival story is evident in the crystal blue water pools and the plethora of flora, fauna, and birdlife known to frequent the region.  Caption Caption Ferries being the only ultimate journey that takes visitors from Ellenabeich to Easdale, Terraviva, a platform organizing international Architectural Design Competitions, offered a brief inviting architectural firms all aro... Bold and emblematic design by Mendoza Partida wins ideas competition for the MUPAC Museum

Mendoza Partida has won the ideas competition for the construction of the MUPAC Museum of Prehistory and Archaeology of Cantabria in Santander, Spain. The two criteria of the winning proposal that the jury especially valued were the singularity of the architecture and its compliance with the brief of the museum and administrative building. In addition, the jury notes that the proposal establishes an appropriate and engaging dialogue with its urban context. Courtesy Mendoza Partida This winning project, entitled ‘Estratos,’ draws from an archaeological essence, with a materiality suggestive of layers. With a gross floor area of 18441 m2, the museum has three floors in total: a first floor with more public spaces such as caf... More

ArchiTALKS Metrogramma

The new episode of ArchiTALKS takes us back to Milan to learn about the design and research experience of Metrogramma, one of the protagonists of the debate on the city, through the story of the architect and founder Andrea Boschetti. The lesson starts with a biographical account of Andrea Boschetti. First, it oversees his studies at the IUAV University of Venice with masters such as Bernardo Secchi, Gino Valle, Manfredo Tafuri or Massimo Cacciari. The lesson continues with an overview of his professional activity: his early experience at OMA in Rotterdam with Rem Koolhaas, and the venture at Metrogramma.   The name of the studio was born in a very secular way. [...] With a group of friends, we started facing architecture competit... More

Rue Camille Claudel

In the history of architecture it is rare to find examples of roads built entirely by the same architect. During the buzz of Ré-inventer Paris, Inventons la Métropole and other international architecture competitions, the Camille Claudel project primarily poses the question of scale. The trauma of the Grands Ensembles has prevented a unitary approach in architecture today. We often see urban projects divided into ‘slices’ of 50 to 60 houses under the guise of “architectural diversity.” This approach is often detrimental as it lacks consideration for town and city planning. Hamonic+Masson & Associés won the Camille Claudel project in 2013 having proposed a global and unitary strategy, which incorporated architectural diversity with evid... More

Videcoq Tower

Overlooking the Bassin du Roy, the Bassin du Commerce and the heart of the city centre reconstructed by Perret, whilst also being located next to Niemeyer’s Volcan and the city’s historic monuments such as the Town Hall and the Saint-Joseph church, the Videcoq project is a building that sits within the unique city of Le Havre, whose history is formed by architecture. By taking into account the specifics of this context, the project attempts to link two territories: the city and the sea. Its architectural style and affirmed expressiveness combine to create a new piece in the port town’s skyline. The site is located at the nodal point of Le Havre’s history and reconstruction. This strategic position, at the articu... More

RED SQUARE TOLERANCE PAVILLION

Winning project ( 3rd place) of the “RED SQUARE TOLERANCE PAVILION” an Architecture competition organized by HMMD international architecture competitions The BENDING GALLERIES From a moral point of view, tolerance is the virtue that makes one respect what it would not spontaneously accept or sometimes what one would consider being against its own convictions. More commonly it is about accepting each others differences, be they religious, sexual, ethnical, etc. By metaphor, the tolerance topic is illustrated by five galleries tied to various religions and meet in one common space : “tolerance”. Laid out in spirals, these galleries merge into one single space thus creating an architectural language inspired by the geometry of Cathedral... More

La Vinya Home

Life in La Vinya unfolds against the backdrop of a modern reinterpretation of the Palladian villa. Sensitivity is the keynote in expansive show villa in which outdoor and indoor spaces, patios, porches and pergolas extend outwards, mingling with the natural setting. It is where the bedroom terraces are built from stone that blends in perfectly with the surroundings and where the upper terraces and patios become vantage points, set within a landscape in which the house’s single volume rests, natural and abstract. The vision for this home is laid out around a series of symbolic spaces, in homage to a Mediterranean country villa. The home is accessed from an elevated patio, reinstating the main carriage entrances of the Palladian villas. Th... More
